Performance Monthly Update

Welsh players Mimi Xu and James Story represented Great Britain in June at U12 and U18 respectively.  Mimi played in the Queenswood International event at number 1 for GB’s 1st team.  The team finished as winners and Mimi won all of her singles matches.  James played in the Paul Hutchins Trophy against a strong USA team.  James won one of his singles and both of his doubles to make a good contribution to GB’s overall score.

Evan Hoyt was awarded wild cards into the main draws of three challenger events on grass in the lead up to Wimbledon.  He was unable to get any wins but had some tough matches against highly ranked players.  Evan then went onto lose a very close match in the first round of the Wimbledon qualifying event 76 76.  He will take his place in the main draw of the doubles event this week alongside partner Luke Johnson after they were awarded a wild card.

North Wales players Morgan Cross and Megan Davies had some international doubles success in Nottingham and Belfast respectively.  Morgan reached the semi-final of the junior grade 1 ITF event in Nottingham which further strengthens her case for a Wimbledon girls doubles wild card.  Megan won her first ever international title after winning the doubles at the junior grade 5 ITF event in Belfast.

Well done to Mimi Xu and Jethro Dela Vega who have both won through to the finals of the International Road to Wimbledon event.  They won three matches each to come through the South West regional qualifying event at East Glos Club in Cheltenham.

Mimi Xu’s hat-trick of achievements in June came at the U12 Tennis Europe event in Halton.  Mimi was a part of the Team Wales trip which looked after 7 Welsh players at the event.  She reached the final of the singles and won the doubles to mark a really successful week of tennis for her.  Gracie Hurley also reached the QF of the singles event.
