Never in doubt. Ish!

Andy MurrayAndy Murray showed once again why he is one of the biggest fighters and toughest competitors on the circuit by completing a five set comeback against Radek Stepanek.

In danger of going out of a Grand Slam in the opening round for the first time since 2008, the British No.1 outlasted his Czech opponent 3-6, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 on Philippe Chatrier.

If Murray fans were expecting an easy start for the World No.2 against the oldest man in the draw they were very much mistaken.

Stepanek, at 37, was playing some superb tennis on Monday when the match begun and headed into a two-set lead with a mixture of slices, drop-shots and accurate volleying frustrating Murray.

Despite losing the third 6-0, and being 4-2 down when play was halted overnight, Stepanek would not go away.

Andy MurrayBut Murray kept battling away and finally got his opportunity at 5-5 to break in the decider before completing his ninth win from two sets to love down when Stepanek failed to squeeze a volley at his knees over the net.

Murray said: “I am just pleased to have got through. He has always been extremely difficult to play.
“He hardly missed any volleys, hit a lot of drop shots and hit the ball very flat and that made it very hard for me to dictate and get any rhythm.

"I had a bit of momentum yesterday but I had to fight extremely hard today."
