Johanna Konta stormed out of the blocks to get her French Open qualifying campaign off to the perfect possible start.

On the red clay courts at Roland Garros, Konta, up against Serbian Jovana Jaksic, raced into a 6-0 lead before sealing the match comfortably by taking the second set 6-3.

Naomi Broady then continued the success with a fine win over Turkish player Cagla Buyukakcay, who beat Heather Watson at the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas in February.

Despite being ranked 96 placed below her opponent, Broady advanced into Round 2 with a 6-1, 7-6(4) win.

Brother Liam had earlier taken to the court to complete his first round match after a rain delay on Tuesday. After talking the first set on a tie-break, the British No.5 fell to Radu Albot 7-6(5), 6-7(2), 2-6.

Afterwards, @Liambroady said: “Thank you all for the kind words and support. Sometimes just got to take these losses on the chin. Onto the grass.”

James Ward then had to wait until 5pm to begin his Round 2 clash with Swede Christian Lindell when rain interrupted play once more on the second day of qualifying.

In his second match in 36 hours, the British No.3 won the first set but lost a tight second on a tie break before succumbing to a 6-3, 6-7(5), 2-6 defeat.

Brydan Klein, Kyle Edmund, Konta and Naomi Broady will all be in action tomorrow as they look to progress into Round 3.
