Colin Fleming and Jonny Marray entered Roland Garros with a tough task ahead of them on Day 3 of the French Open.
The British pair were up against the experienced duo of Feliciano Lopez and four-time doubles champion in Paris Max Mirnyi on court 8.
Fleming and 2012 Wimbledon doubles winner Marray raced into an early 4-1 lead in the first set before closing it out 6-3.
But world No.12 Lopez and his big-serving partner fought back to take the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 and progress to the next round.
