Jamie Murray wins doubles opener at French Open

No.11 seeds Jamie Murray and John Peers survived a quick scare before advancing into Round 2 of the men’s doubles at the French Open.

The long-term partners lost the first set against Thomaz Bellucci and Joao Sousa before powering through to the next round 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-2.

Murray and the Australian, Peers, suffered an early break in the first set before fighting back to take it into a tie-break which they narrowly lost 8-6.

They broke at 4-4 in the second set to take the match into a decider where they soon found themselves 4-1 up.

Heather WatsonAfter trading breaks towards the end, they served it out to set up a clash with Santiago Giraldo and Dusan Lajovic.

Earlier in the day Aljaz Bedene and his partner Albert Ramos were knocked out in two tight sets to Frantisek Cermak and Jiri Vesely 6-4, 7-5.

Heather Watson, playing American Sloane Stephens on Thursday in the singles, also paired up with Marina Erakovic in the women’s doubles.

Up against No.3 seeds Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, the duo pushed them all the way before falling to a 6-4, 7-6(2) defeat.
