Murray continued his excellent clay court form in a rematch of this year's Australian Open quarter final, with the 3rd seed taking on young Australian Nick Krygios in the first match on Suzanne-Lenglen, winning 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.
A nervy start from both players saw two breaks of serve in the opening four games, with intricate points and wild mistakes common; the highlight being an audacious through the leg lob from Kyrgios. It wasn't enough though, as Murray broke to take the lead in the seventh game. An emotionally charged first set remained on serve, with Murray taking it 6-4.
The second set was a much more routine affair, with inconsistencies in the Australian's hitting allowing Murray to secure the double break and take it 6-2.
Kyrgios broke early in the third, but with the world no. 29 displaying his emotions for all to see and suffering a code violation, Murray looked to capitalised. He immediately broke back and utilised the momentum gained to dominate the rest of the set, finishing out the match 6-3 to set up a 4th round tie with either David Goffin or Jeremy Chardy.
