Dom Inglot got his US Open campaign off to a thrilling start by sending the No.2 seeds packing in Round 1.

The Aegon GB Davis Cup Team star, teaming up with Robert Lindstedt, continued their fine form which saw them land the Winston Salem title last week to upset Ivan Dodig & Marcelo Melo 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-4.

Inglot and Lindstedt got the decisive break when leading 5-4 in the third and only need one match point to secure their passage into the latter stages.

The British No.2 ranked doubles player missed the entire clay court season through injury but is back to full fitness and aiming to try and replicate his 2013 performance at Flushing Meadows where he reached the quarter-finals.

@dominglot said on Twitter: “Come on!!!!! A win against the 2nd seeds was just what we needed to get our campaign started @usopen. Blimey it was close though!”

Jamie MurrayWimbledon finalists Jamie Murray and Australian John Peers also smoothly progressed through to the next round after sweeping aside Denis Novikov and Bjorn Fratangelo 6-3, 6-2

Murray and Peers are the No.8 seeds in New York this year and go on to face Santiago Giraldo and Rameez Junaid in Round 2.

Elsewhere in the men’s doubles draw Aljaz Bedene and partner Daniel Gimeno-Traver went down 6-3, 7-6(5) to Mate Pavic & Michael Venus.

Over on the women’s side, after Heather Watson and Marina Erakovic had withdrawn from their clash against Michaella Krajicek and Barbora Strycova, British duo Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith stepped in but lost out 6-4, 6-4.
