Dom Inglot into first ever Grand Slam semi-final after knocking out No.6 seeds at US Open

Dom Inglot’s fantastic winning run continued at the US Open as he powered into his first ever Grand Slam semi-final.

Inglot and Robert Lindstedt overcame the Brits former partner Florin Mergea and Rohan Bopanna 7-6(2), 6-3 to ensure two British players will now take to the courts at Flushing Meadows in the last four of the doubles competition after Jamie Murray’s win on Tuesday night.

Dom InglotAegon GB Davis Cup Team player Inglot only started playing with Swede Lindstedt earlier this summer but the partnership is unbeaten in eight matches having won the Winston-Salem Open prior to travelling to New York.

Neither Inglot nor Lindstedt lost their serve all day against the No.6 seeds as they took the opener in a tie-break before getting the only break of the match towards the end of the second set.

Despite falling 0-40 down when serving out the match and facing four break points they recovered to clinch the clash on their first match point.

Standing in their way of a place in the final is French duo and Aegon Championships doubles winners Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

  • The last time two British players competed in the doubles of a Grand Slam semi-final was the 1988 Australian Open when Jeremy Bates and Andrew Castle met for a place in the final.
