After Thursday’s heroics with the marathon matches involving Johanna Konta and Andy Murray, Friday saw some of the British doubles players take the stage in New York.

British No.1 Jamie Murray, a quarter-finalist in 2013, continued his excellent form with John Peers to brush aside Santiago Giraldo and Rameez Junaid 6-1, 7-5 in just over an hour.

The Wimbledon finalists are the fifth highest seeds left in the competition and dominated from the off, breaking serve twice in the opener and once in the second to march into Round 3.

Elsewhere Jonny Marray and Marcus Daniell suffered an agonising 6-4, 4-6, 6-7(3) defeat to Phillip Oswald and Adil Shamasdin while Laura Robson and Kirsten Flipkens went down 6-2, 6-3 to Caroline Garcia and Katarina Srebotnik.
