Day 3 - Boulter sets up final with Flipkens
Katie Boulter continued her run of impressive form by defeating Jennifer Brady 6-3, 6-3 to reach the final at the Fuzion 100 Southsea Trophy. The 21-year-old will face second seed Kirsten Flipkens, who won both her singles and doubles semi-finals at Canoe Lake Leisure, in Friday's title decider.
Leicestershire’s Boulter needed one hour and 27 minutes to find a way past the American world No.75 in a match which was closer than the scoreline suggested. In windy conditions, the world No.144 held her nerve and came through several deuce games to secure victory and book her place in the final.
“I think it was very mentally challenging for me today. I have had a really great week and I am pretty tired from the accumulation of matches at such a good level but I dug really deep to stay with her and play some of my best tennis,” said Boulter.
“Tomorrow is going to be just as difficult, but I am going to go out and do the exact same thing and focus on myself and give it a go as I have nothing to lose.”
Boulter's final opponent Flipkens continued her excellent run of results on the grass, breaking serve for a sixth time to close out a 6-3, 6-2 victory over France’s Pauline Parmentier.
Flipkens also teamed up with Johanna Larsson to defeat Lidziya Marozava and Ioana Raluca Olaru 6-4, 7-5 and set up a doubles final against Alicija Rosolska and Abigail Spears. Rosolska and Spears had knocked top seeds Shuko Aoyama and Monica Niculescu out of the event in straight sets earlier in the day.
“Of course it’s great because every match you get under your belt before Wimbledon is good and it’s nice to have a good partner to enjoy a good match with,” said Flipkens.

Day 2 - Boulter sails into semi-finals
Katie Boulter ensured there will be British interest in Thursday’s semi-finals after she defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2, 6-0 in her quarter-final at the Fuzion 100 Southsea Trophy on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old from Leicestershire was dominant throughout the match, breaking serve five times to seal the win in only 49 minutes. It was an impressive victory for the world No.144 who, who was ranked over 50 places lower than her opponent.
“I thought I hit through the ball really well, worked hard and was just happy to get the job done,” said Boulter. “It’s one of my first Top 100 wins, so it’s always going to be special. She’s a great player, and I thought I played really well. It’s a great win for me.”
Boulter’s semi-final opponent will be Jennifer Brady who made her way into the last four thanks to a straight sets win over Madga Linette. The 23-year-old overpowered her Polish opponent to secure a 6-4, 6-3 victory in one hour and 39 minutes.
Looking ahead to her match with Boulter, Brady said, “She’s been having some good results on the grass. She did well a couple of weeks ago at the Nature Valley Open. Every match is a new task and I’m going to go out there and whatever happens, happens.”
Second seed Kirsten Flipkens will face Pauline Parmentier in Thursday’s first semi-final. Flipkens battled past Vera Lapko 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in a topsy-turvy encounter, while France’s Parmentier prevailed in a more straightforward match, defeating Renata Voracova 7-5, 6-1.

Day 1 - Boulter kickstarts Southsea campaign with a straight sets victory
On the opening day of the Fuzion 100 Southsea Trophy, rising star Katie Boulter was in sensational form as she defeated world No.104 Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals.
Leicestershire’s Boutler, who was given a wild card into the tournament, served well and maintained her focus throughout the match to defeat the Russian in 72 minutes and set up a last eight clash with Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, who knocked third seed Monica Niculescu out of the event earlier in the day.
“I thought it was a really good level, I went in expecting not that much and I came out with a win so I’m really excited and I played some great tennis,” said Boulter. “The win gives me a lot of confidence, she’s around 100 in the world so it’s another top win and I think I can keep pushing forward from here.”
There was disappointment for local hopeful Gabriella Taylor who fell to American Jennifer Brady in straight sets. After dropping the first set 6-2 in 29 minutes, Southampton-born Taylor remained resilient to lead 4-3 in the second set before her more experienced opponent reeled off three consecutive games to take the match.
Magda Linette fought back from a set and a break down to upset top seed Petra Martic in the opening match on Court 3. The Polish World No.55 raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set before Martic hit back to win seven games in a row. She was then broken while serving for the match in the second set as Linette fought well to claim victory after 2 hours and 32 minutes.
“I just decided to be that little bit more aggressive, to go for my shots and aim for the bigger targets. Petra is always very tough, so I knew I had to play fast and go out of my comfort zone so the win gives me a lot of confidence,” said Linette, who will play Taylor’s conqueror Brady in the quarter-finals.
