AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) is discontinuing as an initiative across many sports. This is due to department of education changes to apprenticeships that required apprentices to be employed. Where young people don't have the option for employment in their sport (e.g. tennis), they cannot therefore enrol in an apprenticeship and AASE is unviable. Tennis is one of 15+ sports affected by this.
The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) is a new and different programme for those sports affected. Following a detailed review we have decided not to deliver the DiSE programme within tennis at this time to enable the LTA to focus on coach education and development along with the new performance pathway.
Current players on the AASE programme will be unaffected by these changes and will complete the programme at their accredited centres as expected.
We will reconsider our position on the DiSE programme in 2020/21.
