LTA tutors inspire and train the next generation of tennis coaches. The Certificate in Tutoring Skills (CTS) course is for experienced, successful, driven coaches with an exemplary track record who have a passion for coaching, are keen to help other coaches achieve their goals and want to train to become an LTA tutor.
On successful completion of the CTS course, candidates will be:
- Added to the LTA’s Approved Tutor List
- Trained to deliver and assess on the LTA/1st4sport Level 1 and 2 courses before progressing to Level 3 and Level 4 (development strand) once the required tutoring experience has been completed and approved
Please note the provision of Level 1, 2, 3 and Level 4 Senior Club Coach courses are outsourced to 1st4sport Approved Centres and LTA Coach Education Centres. These centres contract directly with tutors from the LTA’s Approved Tutor List. Successful completion of the course is, therefore, not a guarantee of work.

Dates for the Certificate in Tutoring Skills course being held at Loughborough University are:
- Module 1 – 14/15/16 January 2019
- Module 2 – 24/25 February 2019
- Module 3 – 12/13 April 2019
- Task planning and additional work will be required between each module

£750 payable in advance
Coaches are responsible for arranging their own transport and accommodation

- Performance and developing coaching skills
- Giving effective feedback and action planning
- Tutoring skills – Formative Assessment
- 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Education and Training – Formative and Summative assessments
- 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement – Formative assessment
Module 3
Days 6 & 7
- Tutoring skills – Formative and Summative assessments
- 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement – Summative assessment
Candidates must attend all of the sessions of the course and pass all elements of the assessment criteria to be successful. This must be achieved within a 3 year window from the start date of the course.
Course pre-requisites
- Hold a valid LTA Coach Accreditation+ (which has not been suspended or withdrawn)
- Hold a minimum qualification of an LTA Level 4
Person specification:
- Have proven coaching experience and track record in coaching and developing players and running coaching programmes or high performance programmes
- Have an exemplary coaching track record
- Have excellent coaching knowledge of the four performance factors in tennis and the coaching process
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of British Tennis and international tennis
- Act as an ambassador for the new strategy of British Tennis both internally and externally communicating and promoting the vision and direction of the LTA with passion, excellence, teamwork and integrity
- Be an inspiring presenter with ability to present both on court and off court and use relevant I.T. tools
- Communicate professionally with LTA colleagues and external stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds
- Be able to manage difficult conversations
- Have the ability to develop people by giving feedback and/or being a mentor
- Be well organised with an attention to detail
- Work successfully in a team environment and contribute to team cohesiveness
- Commit to annual LTA Tutor Training
